Nervous System Summary 11/B
C.N.S (Dalal)
Brain: The brain is the control system of the body
Cerebellum: located at the back of the brain and controls balance and coordination. The skeletal muscles are controlled by the cerebellum.
Brain stem:The brain stem connects the brain and the spinal cord and it consists of two parts. Medulla oblongata which helps with control heart and breathing rate and the pons relays signals between the cerebrum and cerebellum.
Cerebrum: is divided into two hemispheres and they are connected by a bundle of nerves
Functions: Thought process, memory, speech.
Spinal cord (Loba)
Protected by the vertebrae
Processes reflexes
Nerve column that extends from the brain to the lower back
P.N.S
Somatic Nervous System (Nora Bu50)
Relay information from external sensory reseptors
Somatic motor nerves relay information from CNS to skeletal muscles
voluntary movements and reflexes
Reflexes are fast responses die to sudden change in environment
Autonomic nervous system (Ghadeer)
A pounding heart is a result of the Autonomic System
The autonomic nervous system carries impulses from the central nervous system to the heart and other internal organs
The body responds involuntarily (not under conscious control)
Important in 2 different kinds of situations
Fight or Flight
Calm and Digest
autonomic nervous system
parasympathetic
active when body is relaxed, it also restores the body into a relaxing state after the body experiences a stressful situation
sympathetic
active during stress, and times of quick rapid heartbeat
