Jared diamonds 5 ways societies collapse

Climate change

Human impact on environment

Relations to friendly societies

Relations to hostile societies

Political, economical, social, and cultural factors.

Warring countries can lead to one being wiped out completely

Nuclear war would be a more modern example because it would be the quickest and most destructive way of societal collapse that would be in result of hostile societies

Example is the green Norse who, along with other factors, were wiped out because of how they were at war and lost

Failure to take care of the land around you such as the soil can lead to failure to produce proper harvest which leads to societal downfall

The green Norse is an example of this as well since they failed to take care of their land which lead to deforestation and poor soil.

Another example is deforestation. If a society does not make sure to replant, they will eventually run out of resources and die out

It is possible that societies do not have the economy to fix the problem at hand. The problem may be too expensive to fix and if they were to fix it, it would then bankrupt them.

An example is the forest fires in the USA. It is too expensive to outright put them out at once so the country manages it instead. Not exactly fixing the problem but not allowing it from completely ruining everything.

Politically, leaders may ignore problems to benefit themselves. The disconnect from the leaders and the masses may cause problems to go unfixed.

In cases like climate change, the problem may be too late to fix and society will have to deal with it as it comes.

Climate change could be an example of society being aware of a problem yet failing to act on it

Failing to adapt to the climate can be a reason for societal collapse. The green Norse failed to adapt to the colder climate which also lead to their downfall.

Societies could collapse because they fail to learn/trade with other nations.

An example is how the green Norse failed to trade with Inuit or learn from them on how to live in the environment

Isolating a nation makes it vulnerable to being stuck in the past compared to rest of the world becasue they don’t learnt the new technological advances.
