Rahman Talib Report (1960)
Suggestion
Emphasize the use of Malay as the medium of instruction.
Free education for primary school.
Automatic promotion until form 3.
Establishment of technical & vocational schools.
Emphasis on religious & moral education.
The objective was to monitor the Education Ordinance Report 1957 and supported the contents in Razak Report 1956.
It was approved in August 1960 and was recorded in Education Act 1961 in October 1961.
Aminuddin Baki Report (1964)
Suggestion
Provide various courses in schools to produce manpower with variety of skills.
Give 3 years additional education in lower secondary school after students end their primary school.
School dropout age was increased to 15 years.
Government has to provide suitable jobs for the students who finished their studies.
The objective was to review the education system of various majors for primary & secondary schools to replace the abolished advanced education.
Education Act (1996)
The objective was to further consolidate the national education system for the young generation in accordance with the country’s aspirations of making Malaysia a center of excellence for education and outline the legislation related to education.
Suggestion
The consolidation of the national education system to include the following; all levels of schooling, from pre-school until tertiary education and all categories of schools government schools, government-aided schools & private schools.
The National Language became the main medium of instruction under the national education system.
Education Act (1961)
The objective was to produce or form a unite multiracial society.
An act that was made based on Razak Report (1956) and Rahman Talib Report (1960) and a mandate to create a national education system that emphasizes:
Malay language as the main medium.
Same curriculum for all schools.
Same public examination for all students.
Cabinet Committee/ Mahathir Report (1979)
The objective was to review the goals and effectiveness of the present education system and also to ensure that the education system meets the country’s goals of producing a united, disciplined and skilled society.
Suggestion
Focus on the 3 basic skills; reading, writing & arithmetic.
Teaching of English language as a second language.
Emphasis given for a sound spiritual education & other disciplines, wherever appropriate.
Secondary education to be divided into two streams; academic & vocational.
Extension of educational opportunities from 9 to 11 years.
Emphasis on curriculum ala Malaysia.
Review of Bahasa Malaysia in-service courses.
