Five Education Report in Post Independence
Rahman Talib 1960
To speed up the process of national integration.
It is made to review education policy in 1906.
A basis to establish the Education Act 1961.
Support the Razak Report.
The report proposed:
Malay language as main language.
Free secondary school education.
3.Automatic promotion till form 3.
Focus on moral and religious education.
3M basic education (membca, menulis, mengira).
Focus on spiritual education and discipline.
7.Academic and vocational streams for upper secondary.
Can continue education from 9yrs to 11yrs.
Education Act 1961
In agreement w Rahman Talib report. (same contents).
Aminuddin Baki 1964
Unite all races under the same school.
'Aneka jurusan' diwujudkan pada 1965
Graduate school at 15yrs
Allow students to work
Fulfilling the jobs needed by the country.
Cabinet Committee Report
Was chaired by Dr Mahathir Mohamed also the Deputy Prime Minister (1974).
Similar to Education Act 1961.
Recommendations:
i) focus on three basic skills i.e. reading, writing and arithmetic
ii) teaching of English as second language
iii) emphasis on sound spiritual education and other disciplines appropriate
iv) secondary education divided into two streams i.e. academic and vocational
v) extension of educational opportunities from 9 to 11 years
vi) emphasis on curriculum ala Malaysia
vii) review of Bahasa Malaysia in-service courses
Education Act 1996
Covers pre-tertiary levels of education under the national education system which comprises preschool, primary, and secondary education as well as post-secondary education
Purpose of education is to enable the Malaysian society to have a command of knowledge, skills and values necessary.
To develop a world-class quality education system which will realize the full potential of the individual and fulfill the aspiration of the Malaysian nation
