kings and queens enjoyed theatre : they would summon thatre companies to come and play
tickets were very cheap : cheapest cost 1 penny (the price of a loaf of bread)
They could buy food (oranges, pippins, apples, gingerbread)
they drank ale (beer)
reacted strongly to the play : clapped the heroes and booed the villains (some actors : pippined because ppl didnt like them -> capital to keep ppl's attention
Actors
When Shakespeare was alive = actors = tour country but when Shakespeare died : permanent theatres
Had a bad reputation : considered as unruly lingerable (persistants), threat to civily society
Only men. Boys whose voice has not broken would play female parts
performed in the afternoon : needed natural light
