-It's believed the founder was Sundiata, who practiced Islam.

-Mansa Musa, Sundiata's nephew, was the wealthiest person of the time and this was because of good rule and regulation of gold and salt trading.
Ibn Battuta:
Originally from Morocco, Batutta left his home country to make a pilgrimage to Mecca, and this led him to several adventures. These were all recorded in his book "The Travels" and tells us a lot about societies at the time.
In the case of how he observed Africa, he noticed that while states had adopted Islam, they had kept their traditions in tact, too.

He visited many Islamic territories being an Islamic scholar himself including: Mogadishu, Delhi, and Mali.
