Her Faults
Very early on we become aware of her snobbery, and we are reminded of this again in the last scene when she rudely dismisses Eunice's gift of grapes as they may not have been washed
-
She is a heavy drinker as it offers her temporary reassurance and dulls her guilt of her husband's death
-
Doesn't seem to regret her affair with one of her students beyond the fact that she lost her job because of it
Who is she?
-
came to New Orleans supposedly to visit, but actually has no money and nowhere else to go
-
Appearance

-
her behaviour is very inconsistent, which makes her seem more human and thus maybe increase pathos
The Centre of Attention

Key quotes
'Young man! Young, young, young, young - man! Has anyone ever told you that you look like a young prince out of the Arabian nights?'
the reptition expresses her attraction to him and to young men generally, but also her longing for her old youth
the mention of 'arabian nights' again remind us of her former job and thus her education and status, starkly contrasting with her promiscuity
'arabian nights' also suggests her attraction to exotic fantasy, and thus her desire to start again in life.
