Townshend Acts
This caused the Colonials to go from paying no taxes to 10-20 percent of people in Britain had to pay
Promoted the anti British slogan, "No taxation without representation", which was said by James Otis.
The townshend acts included the taxing of items such as sugar, stamps, tea, and glass.
Intolerable/ Coercive Acts
Trials now had to be held in England, which was a sign of distrust from Britain to the colonies removing the right to fair trial. This was infuriating especially after John Adams defense.
The new Quartering act was enforced insuring the British troops close proximity to the colonists. They also disbanded the Massachusetts legislature leaving them without a representative government.
The Intolerable Acts included the Boston Port act. Which closed down the port until they could repay the amount of tea that was lost in the Boston Tea Party. This was a problem because this was Boston's main source of income.
End of the French and American war
Because of the standing armies that were left behind the Quartering Act was created.
This also led to the proclamation of 1763 which meant that the colonies could not own land of the west of the Appalachian mountains.
Was a British victory which in turns led them to leave standing armies behind to watch over the colonists.
Boston Massacre
This was John Adams major defense. Where he defended the solider's as not guilty.
This trial ended in the victory of John Adams, which was the soldier's were seen as not guilty. This enraged the colonists, especially the Sons of Liberty.
Inspired the Paul Revere engraving which was titled, The Bloody Massacre. This engraving spread all throughout the colonies depicting Great Britain as the enemy.
First Continental Congress
This introduced the Committees of Correspondence.
Because of the first Continental congress was so effective this led them to agree to the 2nd Continental Congress.
Led to the colonies boycotting British goods. Which affected the income for Great Britain.
