Google Drive Issues in Canvas
Trouble Authorizing Google Drive?
If you briefly see a momentary notice your account was authorized but then it fails and returns to the screen with the AUTHORIZE button, you probably have disabled third-party cookies in your web browser.
To try to resolve the issue on a Chromebook, start by clicking the icon at the bottom left of the screen to bring up the control panel. Click the Gear icon ⚙ for settings and proceed to Step 1.
Once you are in the Chrome browser settings:
Scroll to the bottom of the settings screen and click Advanced.
Scroll down to the Privacy and security section and click on Content Settings.
Click on Cookies.
Make sure the top option is on so that it reads Allow sites to save and read cookie data (recommended).
Make sure that Block third-party cookies is NOT enabled.
Click the X at the top right of the settings window to close it.
If that still doesn't help, it could be an extension that has been added to Chrome that is creating an issue:
Open the Chrome web browser.
At the top right, click ⋮ or ! and then Settings.
At the bottom, click Advanced.
Under Reset Settings, click Reset Settings and then Reset or Reset Settings.
If it still does not work, it may be best to get a different school chromebook.
Assignments aren't submitting from Google Drive using the Cloud Submission.
You want to try a
work around to turn your assignment in
. If the previous tips don't help and you still can't see your Google Drive in Canvas, you can:
Download the file you want to submit to your Chromebook's Downloads folder
Upload the file from that folder into Canvas
DOWNLOADING A GOOGLE DOC/SHEET/SLIDE TO YOUR CHROMEBOOK
While viewing your file in Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides, click on File, then Download as, then PDF Document (or the file format that is preferred by your teacher).
The file will be downloaded to the Downloads folder on your Chromebook. You can click on SHOW IN FOLDER in a dialog box at the lower right of your screen to confirm the successful download.
UPLOADING THE FILE TO CANVAS
When submitting a file to Canvas, choose File Upload or something similar rather than Google Drive or Cloud Submission.
Take a
screen shot
of your work and turn that in.
Check Update Info
Prior to clicking authorize Google there's 2 steps that help fix many students' accounts.
Clear all Cookies
Re Login to Clever and GMail(or anything google) with a school account only. If they accidentally do something personal. Start over with clearing cookies again.
Go through the video but hit the refresh button before clicking Authorize to insure it's picking up that you're now logged into the school google account.
Authorized and no further issues
Account Setting show Authorized with student account.
Connecting to personal account even though Authorize shows school account
If
account Icons don't match the student account
. Click on the top one to switch from personal to student account. Create account if needed.
Clear cookies, sign in to student accounts in clever and google then re-Authorize. This should solve the issue.
If they do can not switch accounts try a different browser. If possible (windows/mac's/{chromebooks may be blocked from downloading alternate browsers}) This should solve the issue.
Log in to school gmail, clever and Canvas in the new browser and there should be no further issues.
Chromebook with no option for alternate browsers
Check for updates and restart. Sometimes restarting fixes the issue, if not continue.
If all updates are applied. It may be easiest to get a different school chromebook at this point.
If you and the student's family are determined to further pursue it, you could try some of the below, but I've had bad luck solving things at this point and I don't suggest further pursuing it. Rather, I'd have them get a new chromebook from the school. This is what google says it might be.
