Progressive waves and the wave equation - Coggle Diagram
Progressive waves and the wave equation
wave equation
Wave speed (v) = frequency (f) x wavelength (λ)
All electromagnetic waves obey this equation c=fλ
All electromagnetic however travel at the SAME SPEED in
a vacuum and air this is 3 x 10^8 m/s.(speed of light through a vacuum or air)
Wave definitions
Wavelength is the distance between 2 peaks or 2 similar points
Frequency is the number of oscillations every second. It is measured in Hertz (Hz)
Amplitude is the maximum displacement from the equilibrium
The period of a wave is how long it takes for one oscillation
Wave speed
Sound in steel travels at 6000 m/s
Light in glass travels at 2x8^8
Sound in water travels at 1500 m/s
Sound in air travels at 336 m/s
Light in a vacuum travels at 3x8^8
Wave features
trough
wave length
peak
amplitude
disturbance(vertical from the peak to the trough)
Propagation(half of the wave)
