Definition
Humanity caused change to the planet justified him to say that we are in a geological epoch.
Named after the greek root for human 'anthropo' and cene meaning 'new'
Crutzen, a Dutch chemist, recognized human domination altered the Earth from its pre-industrial condition.
How did this happen?
Humans pumped carbon dioxide into the Earth as a byproduct of our factories. As a consequence, because Carbon Dioxide is a greenhouse gas it held heat reflected from Earth and did not let it escape into space.
CO2 levels went from 280ppm to 390ppm, faster than ever before
Uncontrolled growth of humanity and industry.
Actions
Improvements to energy efficiency and solar and wind
US dropped out of the Paris Climate Accord which would
leave
US greenhouse gas emissions at at least 3 percent higher in 2030.
Environmental Destruction
CO2 makes the Ocean more Acidic
Kills Species
Scientist James Lovelock believes that we have passed the point at which humans can control climate change.
Human Adaptation
CO2 heats up planet, melts glaciers
Changed Ocean Ph, Endangered Species
Overfishing
Loss of Biodiversity
Leads to a destruction of the food cycle which kills animals that are necessary for human survival
Personal Action
Control personal waste!
Be a climate voter!
