Voice Memos was a a software I mostly used for my earlier blogs when I didn't know how to record audios on iMovie. I also used it for my first draft of my preliminary task to record some sound effects to add such as the footsteps.
When I first started in year 12 I had used iMovie a few times. However at the time I only knew how to add clips and cut them together (without audio). I improved my editing skills on this software by doing blogs and also editing our preliminary task on it. After playing around and experimenting on it I can now make two videos appear side by side on one screen, I can change the length of transitions to create fun effects, I can have an audio overlap a video and so much more.
I used Garageband mostly when I was experimenting with sounds for our preliminary task which is on one of my blogs. I then began creating original sounds using different instruments. Before I had never used this software before, and I now know the basics such as recording your own voice or instrument or creating your own melody/music using many different instruments.
Premiere Pro is the newest and most advanced software I have used yet. The first time I ever used it was during lockdown of Covid-19. I watched tutorials on the software which I didn't find helped me much, so instead I watched some on YouTube. The very first time I tried creating a video I couldn't even import my media. After experimenting numerous times I became more comfortable using it and I am currently practicing the different video and audio transitions available.
The most basic equipment and the furthest I had gone to filming was using my iPhone 8. While using my phone I realised that it was easy to carry around and light. However when we were filming our preliminary task I noticed that the quality was limited, that we couldn't hold it still so the footage would be very unsteady and that it was hard to find good lighting. Also there was always limited storage so we had to transfer videos before being able to take some more.
The most advanced hardware equipment we got to use was a Nikon Digital camera D3300. Our first time using this camera we struggled with setting it up such as adding it on to the tripod. Once we had recorded a clip we didn't know the different buttons or how to view the clip we just took for example. We also had difficulties with the focus and the lighting. Nevertheless, we improved and we managed to film our final product a lot quicker than when we first attempted to.
This has been my most used equipment since I started the project. I have used my MacBook Pro 13 (2017) for editing footage, using softwares, research, for sharing etc. and I have still learnt so much even though I had already used it before. Not only have I used many more new softwares and apps, I have advanced in the use of the computer itself. By this I mean that I have discovered many different elements, especially in System Preferences, and so now when I have a problem I can usually fix it myself.
Along with the camera we received a tripod resembling this image. Once we learnt how to set it up and make it stand straight at the right height which used to take us a long time we then struggled with putting the camera on to it. The tripod was very handy to keep the camera steady which made our videos look professional and it was also light, portable and easy to use once we knew how to set it up and take it back down.
HARDWARE
We got the microphone with the camera and the tripod. It improved our product so much especially since we got a cover with it which protected the diegetic sounds from the wind. This was especially useful the first time we tried to film our final product since the whole video took place outside. It also helped our final extract because it picked up the footsteps of our characters running which we could use for our finished product.
ONLINE
I mostly used Pinterest to look up ideas especially for inspiration for the witches makeup and costume.
I also used it for blogs for different purposes such as looking up fan art for a different project. Pinterest has been helpful because it shows many aesthetic images which helped inspire me for our final product.
I used Google for all sorts during the project. It is so handy because I can access it through my phone, my own computer or any other computer. It helped me with my research for blogs as well as research on witches and different myths which inspired us for our final product. I also used it to access all of the different online apps.
YouTube really helped me in this project for multiple reasons. I used it to put up blogs of my research and my preliminary task. In addition, I utilized it to watch tutorials on how to use Premiere Pro and GarageBand which particularly helped me. YouTube helped my skills progress in the media world because of the simple and accessible videos that are published.
Blogger is the website I use where I put up all of my blogs. At first I found it confusing to costumize my own blog but once that was done, it was very simple to use. For example, I could draft unfinished blogs to then upload when I finished them in my own time, I could add images, change the font and add links.
Youtube is also one of the distribution websites for our final product.
We chose Facebook as a marketing site for our final product. This is where our targeted viewers can stay updated on our horror film and where us as film directors can keep our audience engaged.
MY MOST USED WEBSITES FOR MY BLOG:
I also used Instagram for costumes and mise-en-scène ideas such as candles, settings which we could use for our final product. As well as Facebook, it is another marketing website for our final film to target our young audience.
