impacts of personalisation
positive
inclusion with community
individuals do not have to go into a residential home where they are separate from everyday life.
they can be supported to live, work and socialise in the community in the same way that those who do not require care and support are able to.
remaining in own home
there is familiarity and a sense of belonging adds to the quality of life
they know there home and the surrounding area.
.the individual feels comfortable and safe.
they have all their belongings and memories around them.
they no their neighbours and use the local shops.
information and guidance
Allows for better choices. indivuduals feel more condient about makin g a chouce is they feel they have all the facts. it is the LA duty to ensure individuals ahve all the informatioon they need.
direct payments for care
allows rapid aces to services
means the individual can have support as and when they need it
. there is no need for the individual to have to wait for the LA to organise or approve payment of care
. they have the money to be able to pay for it imediatley.
new opportunities
employment, further and higher education are open to individuals who need services as they can pay for the necessary support they need to access these opportunities.
support is available and given at the time they want it.
challenges
worry about spending budget
all the money has to be accounted for
if the individual has opted for direct payments, the LA will ask them for copies of bank statement, invoices and receipts to justify how their budget has been spent.
care is limited to the prescribed budget
the individual is given a set sum of money.
when the money is spent it is likely that no more will be available until the next financial year.
individuals need to know their plans for the coming year so that when they are accessed they can apply for the relevant support; otherwise, they could miss out n funding, particularly with government cuts
if individuals don't stay within budget, they may be short of money towards the end of the month.
this could be an added worry
availability and access to some services may be restricted in some areas
particularly if they individual live in a rural area and travel is difficult because of poor public transport
high demand services may be provided only for individuals with the greatest needs so some people will miss out.
there could also be a lack of trained carers.
