Literary Terms
theme
Theme is the central idea, topic, a point of a story, or narrative.
Theme examples: Courage/The Hobbit, Death and dying/The Fault in Our Stars, Honesty/, and Revenge/Macbeth

Direct characterization
Direct Characterization is showing what a person is like just by directly explaining their personality traits.
Examples:the quiet girl and her patient little sister were well behaved and mannered and didn't disobey their mother.

Plot
The main event of a play, novel, movie, or similar work involved with that.
Examples: characters and cofnlicts are introduced, a rising action which brings the character to the climax, and then a falling action and resolution.

Symbolism
A device that uses symbols. be the words, marks, locations or ideas representing something beyond the literal meaning.
The dove is a symbol of peace. A red rose, or the color red, stands for love or romance. Black is a symbol that represents evil or death.

Tone
A vocal or musical sound with reference to its pitch, quality and strength.
Examples of tone: comic, condescending, facetious, funny, light, sad, playful.

Personification
The attribution of a personal nature or human characteristics to something or the representation of an abstract quality.
Lightening danced across the night sky, the wind howled through the night.

Genre
A category of artistic composition as in music or literature characterized by similarities in the same form or style.
Examples: drama, poetry, prose, and nonfiction.
