structure of leaves
specialised cells
specialalised cells trap the light on top. these cells are called paside mesophyll and theyre packed full of chlorophyll. the platns use to absorb light.
adaptations
leaves have a large surface to trap light. it also has little pores called stomata so carbon dioxide can pass through the leaf. they are thin so the arbon dioxide does not have far to travel.

greenhouses
groing crops in greenhouses gives a large yield fro a given area. this is intesive farming. conditions i the greenhouse can be controleed to optimose the rate of photosyntehsis . greenhoosuees plants from the weather conditions and from being damaged or eaten nby animals
sunlight heats up the inside of greenhouses, causing the temperature to rise.
a carbon dioxide source can be used to icnrease the concetration of the gas
paraffin heaters are used in greenhouses. as the fuel inside them bruns, they produce carbon dioxide. they can also used to increase the temperature on cooler days and nights.
wwatering systems deliver a regular supply of water
blinds can be used to control the amount of light
humidifiers are uszed to add mosture to the air
testing for starch
when iodine solution is added to a leaf it will turn blue/black if starch is present. if starch is present thats shows photsynthesis has happend
process: leaf in boiling water to sofen it, leaf in methylated spirits(removes chlorphyll), leaf wahsed. few dropsof iodine solution added and then blue/black coour indicates starch produced by photosyntheis

limiting factor
A limiting factor is simply anything in short supply that prevents photosynthesis occurring at its maximum rate. If photosynthesis occurs more slowly in plant cells then a lower quantity of sugar will be produced and the quantity of chemical energy available for cell growth will be reduced.
stomata
this is little pores the open up so carbon dioxide can diffuse into the leaf. they are controlled by the sausage shaped guard cells, which will let carbon dioxide in. they can also close up the stomata and prevent other things like water from escaping

photosynthesis is a chemical reaction which carbon dioxide and water are converted to glucose and oxygen by the energy provided from the light energy absorbed by chlorophyll and it is an endothermic reaction.
