cells - Coggle Diagram
cells
cell functions
-
cytoplasm
jelly like substance which allows various substances to move about in the cell and allows chemical reactions to take place
-
-
vacuole
contains fluids which stores food ad nutrients needed by animal and keeps the plant cell firm by taking in water, contains water and dissolved substances
cell wall
absent in animal cell and all plant cells have cell wall, supports the cell and gives its regular shape
chloroplast
commonly found in plant cells like leaf cells. contains chlorophyll to trap light energy from sunlight for photosynthesis to make food for the plant
division of labour
-
process
- cells = basic unit of life
- tissues = a group of cells performing a similar function
- organs = a group of tissues performing a similar function
- organ system = a group of organs linked to perform a particular function
- organism = a group of organ systems working together
-
in unicellular cells
has only one cell that has to multitask to survive. therefore, there is no display of division of labour in unicellular cells
importance
it allows the organism to perform more tasks, be more efficient as each part concentrates and specializes in one area and this allows their cells to live productive for a longer period of time
red blood cells
-
-
biconcave shape increases surface area to allow more oxygen to be absorbed and diffused out to other parts of the body
-
-
multicellular organisms
not all cells perform the same function. different cells have different functions to allow the whole organism to work
-
can be modified by size, shape or function according to their purpose
