Negative affects of cell phones on human communication skills
Cell phones are an addiction
Technology causes us to lose the intimacy of face to face interactions
My personal experience
Technology gives us a sense of control
I am more engaged in conversations
When I go camping I have no phone service
I quickly become close with my childhood friends I barely see because we are more engaged with each other and do not face distractions in our interactions caused by cell phones
My mind is focused on the present and I stop stressing about missing out on what other people are doing on social media
we have a sense of control that is not provided in face to face interactions with people
In real life conversations we are more vulnerable and emotions are more real
we can follow whoever we want, like whatever posts we want, respond and talk to whoever we want, block whoever we want
When we talk with people through the phone, we can take time to formulate responses
cannot read body language, have eye contact, and read tone of voices through text message
lose the opportunity to create close bonds
skip the formal steps face to face conversation offers
texting causes a lot of miscommunication; misinterpret the meaning of a text
Cell phones cause a loss of communication skills
People often solve problems over text; this teaches children that expressing real emotions in real life is not okay
studies done shows that children's brains and learn less through technology than in person interactions
interacting with people teaches us communication skills, creativity, and collaboration skills
people are more likely to spend time on their phones that with their loved one
we use our phones to avoid interactions with people in public
we use our phones to not look alone/awkward in public when by ourselves
people know that they use their phones too much
people believe that other people use their phones way worse than they do
