Gem: Camoflauge Teddy Bear
Sociology
Since my father allowed me to choose which bear I wanted, rather than make suggestions, I subconsciously elected one that I related to him.
Question: Why do you cherish an object more if someone else gives it to you? Or when it comes from someone that seldomly gifts you something?
Anthropology
While this teddy bear does not represent any characterization of ethnicity it does have a connection with my ethnicity. My father has told me countless stories about what goes on in Cuba because of political dictatorship. Children in Cuba do not have toys as we do. The shades of green on the bear reminded young me of army soldiers. This bear somewhat reminded me of what my father and grandfather had to go through in Cuba, which allowed me to think about our culture and what happened to them. It put into perspective how lucky I really was.
Question: Why is it that we cherish antique-like objects or connections from our ancestors? Is it because of the history they hold, or something else?
Psychology
This bear was given to me as a reward for my good behavior.
Question: When you want to keep an object, what lengths would you go in order to keep it? Would you change your bad habits, or just pretend to until you get what you want?
Economics
During the time when I went to the store, this specific bear was not in high demand.
Question: What makes an item become a high demand item?
Human Geography
The bear is made out of plush and stuffing. This bear is made out of some plastic due to synthetic stuffing. This pretty much means that the teddy bear won’t degrade as fast as normal, and might last up to 15 years.
Question: Do the materials of a Gem or its impact on the environment change how much it is cherished/valued?
History
I have owned this teddy bear since 2013, and I have kept this bear, while all my other ones have been given away.
Question: What is it about certain old objects that make us cherish them and difficult to part from them?
Political Science
