Social media and the Mind
addiction potentials
help us do better when controlling our "addictions."
Addiction should matter to others because it is something that a lot of people tend to overlook because social media use does not seem like a true addiction.
a social media addictions is just as serious as any other addiction
there needs to be treatment and rehab for getting over the addiction
it can take over your life if you don't know how to control it or are susceptible to addictions.
any addiction can destroy not only your mental health & physical health but it can also destroy the relationships around you
brain manipulation
I want to talk about how social media is impacting our brains and the scientific research that shows the differences between addictive behaviors and cellphones.
compare brain scan comparison to addition in social media/cell phones and drugs
Brain manipulation is important because it would alter the way your brain works or maybe even performs later on in life.
how can this impact us long term?
health aspects/risks
I learned that excessive social media use and overall phone use can do a lot of potential damage in your brain and body.
can ruin your attention span
To much time on our phones impacts us mentally as well as physically as we get older.
we end up spending more time inside sitting than we do outside.
a lot of individuals who are addicted to social media or their device are becoming overweight at alarming rates.
with everyone being terrified of this virus there is an even less of an incentive to go outside.
further generations
I want to find out how this is impacting us at younger and younger ages
both socially and mentally
how we may be able to prevent it
impacts future generations because we are already instilling into them the excessive use of social media and phones
they see us online or infront of a screen 24/7; for work, for leisure (tv), homework, anything and everything these days are through a screen
We are setting up the image and stepping stones for those in front of us.
lowers young kids self esteem early on
people on social media become famous because of their looks and it makes people believe that they need to reach these "goals" or standards in order to be accepted in society
Solutions
I want to continue my work through my real life to help those around me get off their phones long enough to enjoy the life around them.
I want my friends and family to be able to put their phones away for an entire day and not worry about what instagram posts their missing out on.
why are we so unable to detach?
how does social media make itself so addicting?
I think my topic can teach my fellow colleagues that social media usage is not something to take lightly.
We can all improve our habits and turn them into other activities that would better our lives.
We need to learn what's enough screen time for one.
Miscellany
how we will choose to act and live in our daily lives.
This will determine if we will prosper to our greatest potential or if we will cease to work once robots become more present
workload in a school environment
especially with everything online it is a lot harder to take time away from screens
we learn to cope with screens and now we are also on them for school 24/7
now we need to learn new ways to cope with stress or find new ways to destress
I can contribute my own experiences especially during the months of the pandemic when I was in "limbo" with no work or school to keep me occupied during the day.
everything we do invovles technology: stress related or destressing because thats how our schooling/society is set up
I can personally attest to how easily this addiction can get out of control and how it impacts your lifestyle in a lot of ways.
I also learned that some articles can look a lot more intense when they really are not.
My perspective has changed with this topic because I knew our generation had a problem with social media but I never realized or fully understood how bad it was.
