There is a lot of fear instilled of the unknown is instilled in Jenn and the fact that she is constantly made to believe that she is always in danger and her very existence is in jeopardy
The use of imagery by the boy (her brother) highlights the consequences of stepping out of the bunker and foreshadow the subsequent events. Her brother states that she will be "kicking and screaming and crying" and there would be nothing that her mother, her father, and her brother could do to save her, which is inevitably how the short film ends.
