Pre-assessment differentiation strategies
Students who have a solid grasp on the topic.
Give them the opportunity to mentor or help students in the class who are struggling.
Require them to write reflections on how it's going.
Offer more challenging homework
Perhaps allow them to choose what they'd like to know more about (as long as it pertains to the lesson)
Create special projects specifically for them
Offer them the opportunity to work with other students who are excelling to see how far they can push their learning.
Students who have some knowledge but can develop more skills.
Find out the areas they are primarily struggling in and provide additional help accordingly.
Meet with students individually to find out how you can help and also to set goals together.
Create lesson plans that are very interactive so they can grasp the concepts quickly.
Provide an open and encouraging learning environment so they are free to ask questions.
Break down concepts into bite-sized chunks so they're easier to understand.
Students who have limited knowledge about the subject, struggle with language barriers and also have special needs
Reach out to guardians to find out more about the student.
Try to come up with a plan that contains measurable goals in which you can all work together to achieve.
Inquire about their concerns, if any
Reach out to former teachers to find alternative pre-assessment options that may have worked in the past.
Reach out to special education staff for guidance and advice. Seek IEPs if necessary.
Can a mentor be provided?
Offer lessons that can incorporate lots of images and symbols for students with learning disorders and ELL students.
Offer videos as an educational tool.
Explore possible assistive technology tools
Use flashcards and wall art that can be referenced when needed.
Break the tasks and lessons into smaller sections so you can scaffold their education.
