BRAT
The R in BRAT stands for reparations. This means Germany had to pay 6.6 billion pounds for damages after the war.
Reason ==>
The allies - mainly driven by France - wanted to ensure Germany would not be capable of war for many years.
Impact ==>
Germany had suspended the gold standard and financed the war by borrowing. Reparations further strained the economic system, and the Weimar Republic printed money as the mark’s value tumbled. Hyperinflation soon rocked Germany. By November 1923, 42 billion marks were worth the equivalent of one American cent.
The B in BRAT stands for blame. This means that Germany had to accept full responsibility for the war.
<== Reason.
Article 231, also known as the War Guilt Clause, was the opening article of the reparations section of the Treaty of Versailles, which ended the First World War between the German Empire and the Allied and Associated Powers. It was a statement that Germany was responsible for beginning World War I. The War Guilt Clause was added in order to get the French and Belgians to agree to reduce the sum of money that Germany would have to pay to compensate for war damage.
<== impact
By placing the burden of war guilt entirely on Germany, imposing harsh reparations payments and creating an increasingly unstable collection of smaller nations in Europe, the treaty would ultimately fail to resolve the underlying issues that caused war to break out in 1914.
The A in BRAT stands for army. Germany was banned from using any tanks, warplanes, or artillery. There army was permitted only 100,000 men and 6 battleships.
Reason ==>
The Treaty restricted the Germans' armed forces to only 100,000 men in the army, no submarines or aeroplanes, and only six battleships. The reason was to reduce Germany's armed forces to a size where they could never endanger the countries around her, or be able to protect herself.
Impact ==>
Germany, would ultimately be a lot less protected and safe compared to other countries, and would lose the advantage of protecting themselves form potential attacks.
The T in BRAT stands for territory. Germany lost 13% of their land resulting in 6 million Germans living in foreign land. The country also lost all of its colonial possession.
Reason ==>
The Versailles Treaty forced Germany to give up territory to Belgium, Czechoslovakia and Poland, return Alsace and Lorraine to France and cede all of its overseas colonies in China, Pacific and Africa to the Allied nations.
Impact ==>
The terms of the Treaty were very damaging to Germany: territory was taken from Germany - depriving it of valuable industrial and agricultural income.
