Photosynthesis
Sun - shines down onto the ground and gives plants energy
Absorption spectrum- an electromagnetic spetrum that measures the absoprtion of radiation in wave lengths
Stroma- inside is grana with sub organelles where photosynthesis occurs before the chemical changes are completed
Water- seperated along with CO2 during photosythesis
Carbon Dioxide- released in stroma during photosythesis
Oxygen- released during photosynthesis that comes from the splitting of water
Grana- stacks of thylakoids embedded in the stroma of a chloroplast
Chloroplasts- where photosynthesis takes place
Chlorophyll- contains pigments of greens and found mostly in plants and algae
Cytoplasm- site for most enzymatic reactions and allows cell growth
Pigments- present in chloroplast and captures the light energy for photosynthesis
Caroteniod- yellow, orange, and red pigments that give colors to plants
27. Photosystem 1- integral membrane complex that uses light energy to catalaze the transfer of electrons across the thylakoid membrane
Electrons- move across the membranes for photosystem 1 and 2
17. Electron chain transport- complexes that transfer electrons from electron donors to electron acceptors via redox reactions, and couples this electron transfer with the transfer of protons across a membrane
Glucose- used by plants for energy and to make other substances like cellulose
Thylakoid (membrane) -flattnened sacs inside the chloroplast bounded by pigment membranes where light reactions take place during photosynthesis
Light reactions- use light energy to make two molecules and used energy molecule ATP and the reduced electron carrier NADPH
ATP synthase- an enzyme that creates energy storage from ATP forming it from ADP and inorganic phosphate
C3 plant- contains 3 carbon atoms
C4 plant- contains 4 carbon atoms
Autotroph- organsm that is able to form nutritional organic substances from inorganic substances
Heterotroph- an organism deriving its nutritional requirements from complex organic substances.
Eukaryote- an organism consisting of a cell or cells in which the genetic material is DNA in the form of chromosomes contained within a distinct nucleus
