Riffs That Relate To It
The plot is very different then that of "Epigraph" because it takes place over time and not in a night. This story also does not recount Odysseus returning home. it does however show a different side of his death has he reflects on his life before dying. The same thing happens in "Epigraph".
The theme in "Fireworks" is quiet different then that of the other story they both comment on Odysseus' death. The first story shows the guilt Odysseus might have felt what happened and the second is more about him dying much peaceful with his surroundings. The theme of this story is mortality and even though he led a great life and he was a great man it had to come to an end at some point.
Mason uses this story to show readers a different version of the end of Odysseus' life. How he might not have been filled with guilt or feel like he lost his family.

Odysseus returns home to Ithaca and finds there to be no one left on the Island. So he hides up above the town to find out what has happened to his home. Then when it becomes dark he returns back to his house. When he arrives he sees that the house is abandoned and overgrown. There are items of the past strewn about the house; the weapons from the fight with the suitors, the ropes the maids were hung with, and valuables. Odysseus tries to figure out what could have happened in his home. He finds a chest with a sack of nails, belt buckles, some linen, and a funeral shroud. Then as it becomes morning he leaves the island saying that he will find answers.

When Penelope and Telemachus arrive on Circe's island they tell her what happened to Odysseus when he returned home.

They say that he had become paranoid and vengeful. Like in "Epigraph" they talk about Odysseus like his home is destroyed and how he had also lost his family. In Circe his death is different but the idea that Odysseus had lost everything at the end of the room has not changed.
