Anatomy of a wave
Amplitude
This is the distance from the equilibrium point to the crest or to the trough
Wavelength
This is the length from crest to crest or through to trough and corresponds to one cycle
Trough
This is the maximum negative amount of displacement from the equilibrium point
Crest
This is the maximum positive amount of displacement from the equilibrium point
Mechanical Waves
This type of waves are the ones that need a medium to travel
Longitudinal wave
This one occurs whenever the particles in a medium vibrate in the same direction of the wave's motion
Transverse Wave
For this one to occur the particles in a medium need to vibrate perpendicular to the direction of the wave's motion
Waves are oscillations that exist in nature, there's multiple types of them
