It's in 2002 that the Euro comes into the form of coins and notes, to be used by the common citizens, and replaced the currency of 12 countries of the European Union, like France, Belgium and Germany.
After the Market Crash of 2009, and few years of economic crisis all around the world, the European Union is qualified as recovering by the experts that saw a significant growth, compared to the previous years.
The 31th of January, The U.K. left the European Union, after a referendum issued in 2019. It's the loss of one of the biggest members for the EU.

The single market refers to the EU as one territory without any internal borders or other regulatory obstacles to the free movement of goods and services. A functioning single market stimulates competition and trade, improves efficiency, raises quality, and helps cut prices.
In 1981, Greece joined the communities, followed by Spain and Portugal in 1986. This came after the fall of dictatorships in all these countries.

On 9 may 1950, the schuman declaration proposed the establishment of a European and steel community, which became reality with the treaty of Paris of18 April 1951. This put in place a common market in coal and steel between the six founding countries.
The six then decided with the treaties of rome on 25 march 1957, to set a european atomic energy community and a european economic community. This would involve building a ider common market covering whole range of goods and services
