Complications
Risk for falls: Any patient who has urinary incontinence may sometimes find themselves in a rush to get to the toilet and may stumble and trip over objects in their environment.
Fatigue: Many patients who experience urinary incontinence are especially worried about wetting themselves at night and this can cause them to develop anxiety and wake up multiple times during the night
UTI's: Due to the fact that the bladder fills to capacity before it releases itself in a person with a neurogenic bladder, these patients are at an increased risk of developing a UTI from the retained urine
Self Esteem Issues: This may be a very traumatic event for some individuals who really value their independence. These patients may have a hard time adjusting to the loss of a part of their independence and may require additional psycho-social care.
Skin Issues: Urinary incontinence can increase a patient's risk for developing skin breakdown due to any soiled material being left touching their skin for prolonged periods of time
This is the involuntary loss of urine that is usually caused by another underlying condition or disease process
