Norms and Expectations

Ashlyn's part

Norm: Students should listen carefully when their teachers and classmate are speaking

Expectation: Students need to believe that reward comes after effort

It is important because it is rude to ignore others on purpose.

We would miss key words or misunderstand others' words if we didn't pay enough attention in the first place.

We can consider things from another point of view if we listen carefully.

Mily's part

Norm: finish homework seriously

Review knowledges that we’ve learned in class.

Find something we didn’t grasp in the class.

We can learn something new after we finished it.

Expectation: We need to figure out difficulties in time .

Nemo's part:

Norm: Students should be punctual

This is especially important for students to cultivate a sense of punctuality, so that they should never be late for any occasion.

Punctuality makes classes more efficient and doesn't cause them to delay because someone is late

Expectation: Teachers should not only teach students knowledge but also teach students social rules

Punctuality means to start or finish something within the required time or at a certain point in time

Melody and Carlos' part

Norm: Each individual in the class respect all ideas given in class and do not criticize anybody's ideas or thoughts.

Knowing some social rules as early as possible can help students better adapt to the society

Criticizing others in a hostile way can sometimes be vitally harmful, for you are exerting negative energy at another human being. In this way you are not being polite to others.

It is important for us to adsorb knowledge that we've learned in the class.

It will help a lot in our examinations so there is no need for a lot of busy review before the examinations.

Knowing social rules can reduce our chances of making mistakes

The study of social rules can enable us to develop better in the society and make contributions and efforts for the society and ourselves

Having opinions indicates that the student is capable of taking a stand. When one student is defending his/her viewpoint during a debate or class, we should appreciate his/her courage for standing up.

It is important especially for creating a positive class climate because rejecting ideas from other students is a selfish behavior and we should be living together under a neighborly environment.

You can make adjustments to revise the idea came up by the prior person instead of directly judging it and making that person feel bad. Constructive criticism serves as a good example.

Expectation: Using appropriate language and wearing appropriate clothing in the campus.

Do what students are supposed to do, don't wear wacky clothes as if you're at a bar or shopping at a fancy mall.

Swearing in front of the teacher is extremely prohibited and disrespectful.

It is important because we should be well-disciplined to match with the imposing school and rigorous teachers. And we should all wear assigned uniforms so that we can solely concentrate on learning instead of comparing with other's outfit all day long.

Swearing can influence peers to do the same thing.
