S90 - basic grade, low cut tolerance
Hardwood
Hardwood Stiles
Species
VG (fir) - easy grade
PG (paint grade) - poplar and other low grade hardwood
FM (frame) - lowest grade hard and softwood, most knots and chips ok
MH (mahogany) highest grade used
RO (red oak) - small knots, correct coloring
WM (white maple) - high grade, correct coloring, no defects
NM (natural maple) - any color, small knot and defects
WO (white oak) - any color, small knots
RA/CH (red alder) - loose grade
WN (walnut) - high grade, correct coloring
Process
Surface - all defects
Sort - graded for split/full face use, low grade > frame/rail stock
Rip - obvious defects and +/- 1/16"
Glue - visible face meets grade
Raw - sorted for size and obvious defects
Chop - clean ends and proper length
Finish - highest grade, must meet color and surface grade, not too much bow/crook
Hardwood Rails - recycled low grade hardwood, must meet rail grade for 35"+ sections
Chopsaw - chop for 35", 48", 69", or rail grade
Surface/Glue Clamp - Face Grade (outside)/Frame Grade (inside)
Sort - low grade frame, sort for rails/recycle
Planer - planed edges, meets grade or puttied, low size tolerance
Fingerjoint Stiles
Tri-state - bow/crook, face defects, low size tolerance
