Unit 2: Ancient Civilization.
Mesopotamia
Architecture (Buildings) - On page 6 it states it is a scared monument that rises from the ancient site of Ur. During the time of 300 BCE and 539 Bce people learned to write down historical records of their battles and peace treaties and laws. ( Steele 6)
Location: In the text it said most of the area that was ancient Mesopotamia was located in modern day Iraq. Two great rivers, the Tigris and Euphrates, join near Al-Qurna in Iraq. (Steele 6)
Writing:
On page 12 I found that at first they used picture symbols to represent objects such grain as cattle, or fish. Then around 3300 BCE the citizens where using around 700 symbols, or photographs. (Steele 12)
Art: The author wrote they have wooden carved hedgehog toys for children, wich was either consierded an offering from the gods, or a childerens toy. Also, the worlds oldest known dice where found at Tepe Gawra, near the modern city of Mosul, and date from about 2750 BCE. (Steele 15)
Religion: In the text it states, that they both believed that it was a boat of God. Also it says that they think the whole world floats on the waters of God. (steele 14)
Government:In the text it said that the rulers enjoyed power and fame and that their deeds where remembered forever. Some of the rulers also became legendary (steele 12)

Writing: In the text it said the oracle bone was made from an ox bone or tortoiseshell. The bone or shell was scorched in order to uncover answers to questions. The shanghai people used the Oracle bone to communicate with there ancestors. (Cotterell 11) :

Ancient India
Religion: In the text it said there sacred writing is called the Vedas. The Aryans first religion was a Ramanism which was polytheistic. This religion influenced Hinduism. (Prentice Hall: World Studies)
Location: In the text it said the Indus river Valley was very good for agriculture because it had fertile soil. Around 5,000 years ago, an alluvial plain developed into a civilization. The Indus River covers most of modern-day Pakistan, the northwestern portion of India, and a bit of Afghanistan. (Prentice Hall: World Studies) o
Writing: In the text it said one of the most secretive thing is the writing. The symbols are found on seals, ceramic pots, and other types of materials. Since we cannot decipher the writing we have less information on the society. (Prentice Hall: World Studies)
Architecture/Technology: In the text it said since they cared so deeply about there hygiene so they made one of the earliest sanitation systems. Since They were so advanced in there technology and architecture they built dockyards, granaries, warehouses, brick platforms, and protective walls. During this time Harappa was a major city during this time. (Prentice Hall: World Studies)
Government: At the top of the pyramid there was the Brahmin which was priests and Academics. The next one down on the pyramid is Kshatriya and Vaishya. They are the warriors and kings. And the other one is Merchants and Landowners. (Prentice Hall: World Studies)
