Mesopotamia
Location: An exaple is that the location of ancient Mesopotamia is within the borders of modern-day Iraq. The ancient civilizations also goes into what is today Turkey, Syria, and southwestern Iran. (Steele 6)
Writing: On page 12 It states that they started writing to track busseness and ownership. Later on they were using over 700 new symbols. (Steele 12)
Architecture: On page 24 it states that zigurats are big bulidings made of brick. It represents a moutain reaching towards the heavens. (Steele 24)
Art: On page 26 it shows one tool they used to make art that was called the lyre. It was used in the royal cerimony at Ur. (Steele 26)
Goverment: On page 30 it states that men enjoyed more freedoms than women. Hammurabi was the king of Babylon and was very strict and harsh with punisments. (steele 30)
Religion: On page 14 they show that they lived in many gods and goddesses, this is called polythesitic. One example is they belived in the queen of the night who represents Istar, the goddess of fertility and war. (Steele 14)
Ancient Eygypt
Location: On page 8 it said the land of the Ancient Egyptians was called the "Black Land" due to the rich dark silt. The people of Ancient Egypt lived along the Nile River where floods made the land fertile. (Hart 8)
Writing: On page 34 it states that the scribes had to be experts in writing hieroglyphs. I know this because this writing shows picture-writing with about 700 different signs. (hart 34)
Architecture:On page 20 they talk about how the great pyrimids were built as a place to bury the Pharaoh. It stand up to 450ft off the ground. (Hart 20)
Art: On page 56 it lists a bunch of pieces of jewery tha the ancient Egyptians made. For example the royal braclet that shows the Horus god as a child. (Hart 56)
Goverment: On page 13 it says that a pharaoh is a royal which can be worn in a court and it is worn by the king. Another example is that the Royal Head was used as fancy palace furnuture. (hart 13)
Religion: On page 24 it states Ancient Egypt was polytheistic so they belived in many gods and goddesses. I know this because it lists a bunch of gods they worship one of the most important ones is Anubis which is the god that would judge your heart and send you to the afterlife. (hart 24)
Location:In the text it said Indus valley was very good for agriculture because it had very fertile soil. Around 5,000 years ago the alluvial plain developed into a civilization. The Indus river valley covers most of modern day Pakistan, and the Nortwest area of India and a bit of Argentina. Prentice Hall:world studies.
Govermant: In the text is says that they used the caste system. There is little evidence that shows how they lived. Altough there are 2 poems telling stories of kings and wards. Prestice hall:world studies.
Architecture:In the text is says that the sewer structure was very important because they were by water. In the text it states that there were many impressive structures including warhouses. They had speial rooms for waste water which was very advanced at the time. Prantice hall:world studies.
writing: THe text says that the writing is still unknown. Over 400 charicters have been discovered. People wonder if they even mean anything. Prentice hall:world studies.
Religion: It says in the text that they used the four vedas as their sacred text. They used he caste system for putting people in groups. They were divided by their wealth and occupation. Prestice hall:world studies.
