Unit Two: Ancient Civilizations
Mesopotamia
Location: An example is that the location of ancient Mesopotamia is within the borders of modern-day Iraq. The ancient civilizations also goes into what is today Turkey, Syria and southwestern Iran. (Steele 6)
Writing: In the text it said that they wrote on moist clay. And used a wedge like stick to create the symbols. (Steele 12)
Architecture: In the text it said that Ziggurats were man made mountains reaching to the gods.They were thought to be the erathly living place of the gods. (Steele 24)
Art: An example is that They made clay pots and vases. And women wove cloth out of looms with wool and cotton. (Steele 28)
Government:An example is that they had a lots of different names for the rulers of city states that meant lord and governor and king. The kings also enjoyed great power fame. (Seele 10)
Religion: An example is they are polytheistic and that means that they belief in more than one god. And that they believed in spirits, ghosts, and demons. (Stelle 14)
Ancient Egypt
Writing: An example is that on page 34 it says that scribes had to be very talented and learn from when they were children. Also their writing was called hieroglyphics. (Hart 34)
Art: An example is that on page 56 it says that the made lots of things out of gold. They also like to make jewelry with gemstones like green feldspar. (Hart 56)
Location: On page 8 it said the land of the ancient Egyptians was called the "Black Land" due to the rich dark silt. The people of ancient Egypt lived along the Nile River where floods made the land fertile. (Hart 8)
Architecture: An example is that on page 20 it says that the ancient Egyptians built pyramids. The pyramids were used as the burial place of the pharaohs. (Hart 20 )
Religion: An example is that they are polytheistic. And a lot of their gods are represented by animals. (Hart 24)
Government: An example is that they had Royal courts and when people approached the king they most of the time kissed the ground at his feet. Also sometimes the king just wanted to watch 20 beautiful women row on the royal lake. (Hart 12)

Writing : On page 11 it says that the oracle bones were used to talk with ancestral spirits.The oracle bones would answer their important questions. After the questions were answered they were inscribed on the bones, which were ox bones and tortoise shells. (Cotterell 11)

location: In the text it said that in the 1920s archaeologists discovered the remains of 4,000 year old cities. the region around the Indus river had rich fertile soil that was good for farming. The Indus river is located in south asia specifically in modern day pakistan. {Prentice Hall: World Studies}
Writing-In the text it said one of the most confusing aspects of this ancient civilization that is the writing cannot be deciphered. Many of these symbols are located on seals, ceramic pots, and other types of materials. Some of the scholars have wondered whether these symbols are actually constituted a proper writing position. Architecture/technology: The author wrote that the advanced architecture and construction techniques of the Indus cities is also shown with impressive dockyards, granaries, warehouses, brick platforms, and protective walls.
