The New Deal

Recovery

Relief

Reform

TEMPORARY programs to start the flow of consumer demand and revive the economy*

relieve extreme poverty, stop homlessness from growing and feed the starving

First New Deal (100 Days IN 1933)

First New Deal (100 Days)

National Recovery Administration (NRA)

Home Owners Loan Corporation (HOLC)

Agricultural Adjustment Agency (AAA)

Public Works Administration (PWA)

Civilian Works Administration (CWA)

Temporary jobs. Although some were useless it stopped people from thinking by giving them things to do.

PERMANENT programs to avoid another depression and make civilians more economically safe

Tennessee Value Authority (TVA)

Revived the economy by paying farmers to produce less food, as less product meant that prices went up. However, this did not help tenants and sharecroppers who were left jobless from new machines to do their work.

Ensured fair working place and conditions which encouraged further people for this new era

Jobs to build useful facilities such as hospitals and schools.

Stopped people from becoming homeless by giving them loans. Loaned money to over a million people preventing them from loosign their homes

Farm Credit Administration (FCA)

Much of the reform was done in the Second New Deal to build on the previous laws

Federal Emergency Relief Administration (FERA)

Helped relieve unemployment by creating unskilled job opportuities. It employed around 20 million people.

Stopped people from losing their farms by giving them loans. Gave loans to over a fifth of all farmers. allowing them to continue prodcuing and not becoming homeless

Temporary job to develop area full of soil erosion and flooding (Dust Bowl). This would not only give work to people but improve the economy as the soil would be farmed again.

Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)

Temporary jobs for young unmarried men. They would get a chance to provide for their families while reciving food and shelter, as well as a purpose and good health as a result of the work

Overall positive outcome: helped prevent homlessness form growing. Wasnt a long-lasting solution but helped solve a more imidate problem.

Positive: Hekped prevent people form loosing their homes and at the same time allowed people to keep on producing. Double win so positive results overall

image

Overall it was positive as it gave people jobs, some form of income and often food or clothes being produced by their labour. Helped re-start industires, gave people skills and relieved families form having to feed one more person

100% effective, Gave people a sense of purpose + skills and work experience

Effective on one side but not on the other. Proved ineffective and damaging for imigrants and the black community mostly. It could be considerd ineffective but overall can't be labeld negative or positive

This was also part of the Reform

Positive for company workers but not for company owners

Overall positive effect. Positive on both sides. 100% effective

100% effective. Helped revive a large area, creating more jobs in the future while creating jobs at the moment as well.

The Social Security Act, 1935

It had really positive outcomes: it made men more employable, gave them skills and allowed them to provide for their families while gaining shelter and food. It was one of the most sucessful programs of the New Deal. However, the work was hard and they were paid poorly and women were not treated the same.

The Wagner Act, 1935

Second New Deal

Second New Deal

The Works Progress Administration (WPA)

The Resettlement Administration, 1935

It gave work to about 2 million people a year builidng roads, public buildings and doing other public works. 7% of the budge was used to create projects for young artists

Farm Security Administration, 1937

Helped sharecroppers and tenants and farm workers who had not been aided in the AAA by moving them to better land

It employed people, improved the infrestructure of the country (which was very damaged after the Dust Bowl) and helped give artist jobs + opportunities,so overall it was a very positive policy

This organisation was effective despite its criticism. As it put emphasis on cooperation and collective life, some critics said it had communist means. In the end, it gave hope and helped multiple families

Replaced the RA in 1937. It set up labour camps for migrant farm workers to have better living conditions and a more secure job

It helped but the plight of poor farmers remianed into the 1930's, so although the impacts of the program were positive they didn't have much reprecussions in the farmers living conditions

It consisted on giving anyone over 65 a state pension, helping the handicapped and even mothers with dependent children. Also, an unemployment insurance.

One of the most successful organisations that still remains active today

Act to support workers who wanted to join a Union and to prevent hate against workers who joined these unions

It was very successful and gave people more freedom of speech to go on strikes over unfair working conditions
