Gravitational energy is the energy stored in an object due to its height above the Earth (e.g. if it's further away or closer to the ground). It is a form of potential energy. An object's height above the ground gives it gravitational energy. The bigger the mass, the more energy is required to raise an object from the ground and increases its potential energy, or stored energy. Examples: Hydroelectric Dams: Water gets pulled down by gravity, goes through giant turbine, and voila, electricity. Cuckoo clocks: Weight pulls down gears and stuff to move the pendulum. Once it hits the ground, no more clock. Rollercoasters: Machine pulls the car up, then it “falls” all the way back to the start. - Jenisha
