Subject
Can be formed with a noun , or noun group.
..with a personal pronoun
..with a third person singular
..with modal operators.
Nominal Groups
Is a typically group with a noun or pronoun on its head.
Are made up of one or more words.
Some of them function as subject.
Verbal Groups
consist of a group of a simple verb
have+en (completion)
be+-ing (progressive)
be+-en (passive voice)
Adverbial groups
Has an adverb in its head.
A conjunction group:usually consists of just the conjunction as head.
A prepositional Group.
Has a preposition as head and this is not often modified.
Three ways of looking at a Clause.
1º Clause as exchange
Relates primarily to the interpersonal metafunction.
2º Clause as representation.
involving such functions as actor, related to the ideational metafunction.
3º Clause as message
Relates primarily to the textual metafunction.
