Factors Affecting the growth of Plant
Amount of Sunlight
Sufficient amount of sunlight.
Plant is healthy
Less Sunlight
Leaves turn yellow
In a forest, small plants cannot grow because they don't get enough sunlight
More Sunlight
Plant gets burned
Phototropism
Photo - light Tropism-turn
Turning in response to light
Leave turns towards light because of Plant hormone "Auxin"
Auxin are released from the plant accumulate on the darker side.Auxins can make cells get longer.
Leaves face towards the sunlight
Some Plants blooms at sunrise and close at sunset.
Leaves open at sunrise and close at sunset.
Photosynthesis
Plants make their own food by process called Photosynthesis
Roots absorbs water from soil to the stem which in turn passes to the leaves.
Carbon dioxide is present in the air and is absorbed by leaves through small openings called Stomata
Leaves of the plant contains chloroplast and it gives leaves green colour.
Plants take Water, Carbon dioxide and light and converts into Sugar and Oxygen.
Sugar is Plants food and Oxygen is passed to the air.
Availability Of Nutrients
Plants need certain nutrients to grow
The most import nutrients are Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen which is used to produce sugars and starches which serve as plant food.
Fertilizer is added to soil or water so that necessary nutrients are available e to plants.
Fertilizers are natural and man made
If plants get less nutrients, they are diseased and die.
If more fertilizers are added , the fertilizer will pull more water from the soil and dehydrate the plant.
Fertilizers also contaminate water and cause water pollution
Manure is used as an Organic fertilizers
Availability Of Water
Poor water quality is harmful for soil
Saline water increase the salt content and plant are not able to absorb water
Fresh water is very limitied
Water is main components in plant cells.
It keeps the plant stiff
It is used in photosynthesis
it transports nutrients throughout the plant
Plants use water to lower leaf temperature, increase mineral absorption and pull water from roots to the top.
Less water leads to dehydrationof plant.
With more water, soil does not provide enough nutrients and plants are suffocated.
Space
Farmers plant crops in rows or straight lines
When crops are planted in rows, maximum light is absorbed and more wind passes between rows increasing air circulation
Availability Of Air
Plants need air to breathe and to make food.
If air is not available to the roots, it can cause roots to faill.
Carbon dioxide diffuses through the stomata from the atmosphere into the leaf spaces
