6.4 Ossification - Coggle Diagram
6.4 Ossification
Endochondral ossification
The fetal hyaline cartilage model develops
Cartilage calcifies, and a periosteal bone collar forms around diaphysis
The primary ossification center forms in the diaphysis
Secondary ossification centers from in the epiphyses
Bone replaces cartilage, except the articular cartilage and epiphyseal plates.
Lengthwise growth continues until the epiphyseal plates ossify and from epiphyseal lines
Epiphyseal Plate Morphology
Zone of ossification
Zone of resting cartilage
Zone of proliferating cartilage
Zone of hypertrophic cartilage
Zone of calcified cartilage
Intramembranous ossification
Woven bone and its surrounding periosteum form
lamellar bone
Ossification center
Osteoid undergoes calcification
Lamellar bone replaces woven bone, as compact bone and spongy bone form.
Blood supply and Innervation
Metaphyseal arteries and Metaphyseal viens
Epiphyseal arteries and Epiphyseal veins
Nutrient artery and Nutrients vein
Periosteal artieries and Periostreal veins
Objectives
Describe and compare the processes of intramembranous ossification and endochondral ossification
Explain the components of bone that enable it to grow and be remodeled
Growth of Bone
Interstitial growth
Appositional growth
Bone remodeling
