In their government they had was in between Royal or Charter. The Royal government was a monarchy ruled by the English and the Charter was a self-govern involving a democratic system. Each colony had its own legislature.
The religion affected the government, they did not have much religious freedom and so the main religion was Puritan, most of their laws and ideologies revolved around their religion. After a while, they started to accept other religions.
Commerce and trade were not affected by the government in many ways. It was a good stable economy, it consisted of fishing, whaling, and shipbuilding. The fish included cod, mackerel, herring, halibut, hake, bass, and sturgeon. The economy was more affected by climate and geography, some of the crops such as corn and beans were difficult to grow because of the poor soil. They also ad many industries to manufacture and export rum and the building of ships.
Their social life and ideologies were basically that men had to work and women stayed home and took care of the kids. Women usually needed to be married because if not they had economic trouble
