lighting
the different coloured and timed lighting creates a chequerboard effect on stage this defines the lines and spacing for the dancers in large ensemble sections in the piece
when the men perform the male competitive showing off section the lighting changes to white pool shining from above
staging/set design
the set is all black acting as a blank canvas
the samba band is on a black elevated platform at the back of the stage
there isn't any set on stage so the dancers aren't restricted spatially
