Wellbeing

Life Expectancy

The ability of human beings to access the things they need in order to live happy and healthy lives (e.g. food, water, education, safety and security)

A statistical measure of the average number of years a person in an area or population can expect to live; expressed in years.

Choropleth Map

A map that shows changes in particular data or characteristics across an area (e.g. population density, GDP per capita) by using shades of the same colour (e.g. light green through to dark green)

Infant Mortality

A statistical measure of the proportion of children in an area or population under the age of 12 months who die; expressed as deaths per 100 live births.

Food Security

A term used to describe a condition in which all people at all times have access to enough safe nutritious food to sustain a healthy life.

More Developed Country

A country with a high income, great health and great education.

Less Developed Country

A country with a lower income and with poor or no health and little to no education.

GDP(Gross Domestic Product)

The total monetary value of all the goods and services produced by a country over a specific time period

Human Development Index

A tool developed by the United Nations to grade and rank the social and economic development of the world's countries in order from most to least developed; used as a measure of human wellbeing.

The Poverty Cycle

A cycle which people who are in poverty cant leave poverty as they dont make enough money to reach or barley reach their needs meaning they dont have spare money to get out of poverty

Literacy

Statistical Measure of the percentage of people in an area or population that can read and write.

Fertility Rate

A statistical measure of the average number of children that all women in a particular area or population will have throughout the course of their lives; expressed as births per 1000 women

Population Pyramid

A type of graph that displays the percentage of males and females in a region or population grouped by age

Sustainable Development Goals

A set of 17 goals that were developed by the United Nations in 2015 that are designed to end poverty, protect the Earth fro, unsustainable development

Demographic Transition Model

A geographic model designed to help explain changes in populations over time, especially the transition from high birth and death rates to low bird and death rates as countries become more developed
