6:28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.
Who said
Jesus
To whom
a great crowd of His disciples
Where
now
and he came down with them and stood on a level place, with a great crowd of His disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jeruslem and the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases.
later
after He had finished all His sayings in the hearing of the people,He entered Capernaum.
early
mountain
synagogue
when
now
He lifted up His eyes on His disciples and said
Blessed are you who are ....
Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exlude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man!
Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy,for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets.
But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.
To one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold you tunic either. Give to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back. And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.
If you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount.
But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most high, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. Be merciful, even as Your Father is merciful.
early
Many came from everywhere to hear Him and sought Jesus' healing
the crowd sought to touch Him for power came out from Him and healed them all
Chose twelve apostles
forgive and healed a man with withered hand on the Sabbath
later
Talk about Judging others
Judge not, be not judged
condemn not, and not be condemned
forgive and be forgiven
the measure you use and measured back to you
a parable
a blind man lead a blind man
falling into a pit
a discipline is not above his teacher unless fully trained
see the speck in your brother's eye but not notice the log in your own eye?
you hypocrite
take out the log yourself and see clearly how to take out the speck from your brother's eye
Why He said
Learn from custom and expect the return from others
people may not return even they receive your giving or help
get prepared for being badly treated due to His name and how to respond
to judge on your standard or perspective?
but, reward from our heavenly Father as being the son of the Most high and like our merciful Father
my reflection
it is hard for me not judge others and even forgive my close companions
I judged using my standards
any objective standards or perspectives?
expecting others to return
calculating, not free
rewarding from merciful heavenly Father
others may know you are not from man but the Most High
reward is being like our merciful Father on heaven
response to hurt and attack, we love, forgive, doing good, pray because of Jesus's name
Who do you look like?
9:18 Now it happened that as He was praying alone, the disciples were with Him.
Who
Jesus
the disciples
Where & when
early
Jesus called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and He sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal
And, they departed and went through the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere
on their return the apostles told Him all that they had done.
And He took them and withdrew apart to a town called Bethsaida.
When the crowds learned it, they followed Him and He welcomed them and spoke to them of the Kingdom of God and cured those who had need of healing.
Now the day begin to wear away
... He looked up to heaven and said a blessing over them...And they all ate and were satisfied.
now
it happened
was praying alone
the disciples were with Him
HE asked them
Who do the crowds say that I am?
Then He said to them,"But who do yo say that I am?"
And Peter answered,"The Christ of God."
later
And He strictly charged and commanded them to tell this to no one
saying
The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.
And He said to all
if anyone would come after me
deny himself
take up his cross daily
follow me
whoever loses his life for my sake will save his life
For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?
... when He comes in His glory and the glory of the Father and of the Holy angels
Now about eight days after these sayings He took with Him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray
And as He was praying, the appearance of His face was altered and His clothing became dazzling white.
What
HE was praying in relation to His identity - the Son of God, The Christ: suffered, being rejected, to be killed and to be raised.
Is it the time to come to the end on earth?
the recognition of His identity from the public and the disciples --> an indicator
Why it happened?
so happened without any plan?
the crowds saw His miracle to feed 5K people by 5 loaves and 2 fish
to know the perception of Him by the disciples
What it resulted in?
the disciples knows He is the Christ of God
My reflections
praying is a communion habit with heavenly Father
How to respond to those who comes to you when you are praying alone
