Razak Report 1956
Named after the then Education Minister, Tun Abdul Razak,
goal: to reform Malaya, provide appropriate educational facilities to create trained and progressive students, guide the education management system to be more efficient and effectively meet the necessity of education system, teach pupils to appreciate other language and respect each culture
incorporated into the Section 3 of the Education Ordinance 1957 and served the basis of the educational framework for Malaya
Malay language is the main medium of instruction but preservation of other language medium schools is allowed
Malay medium school are referred as national schools while other schools are referred as national-type school or vernacular schools
All schools are government-funded and use a common national curriculum, Malay and English are compulsory subjects

recommended a national school system, which would provide primary education for 6 years in Malay and English
allow bilingualism in Malay schools (Malay and English) and a three language "solution" in Tamil and Chinese schools (either Tamil-Malay-English or Chinese-Malay-English)
