Doggy Daycare
Talent/Skills/Passion
Driven
I am pursuing this career because of a past experience, I don't want any pet owner to be afraid to seek a nice place for their dog to enjoy.
No abuse will be in sight, they will be very loved and well-taken care of unlike other facilities.
Marketing
Before pursuing this idea, I looked at the market surrounding me, there is no competition and no facilities like a day care for dogs around.
I would be the only one, so I would have a much better chance of survival.
-
Love animals
I have two dogs of my own and I love them dearly. I want all the dogs I look after to be treated just as my own.
This idea came out of fear for the care of my dogs when I went away on a trip, I felt I couldn't trust any facilities because they would be kept in cages, etc, whereas my kennel would be free range.
Rewards
Flexibility
Being able to stay at home and take care of the house for my husband who works on the railroad is a must and this career could afford that as I'd be making money out of my backyard.
I could take trips just by informing my clients so and seeking other arrangements for them. I would never have to go to somebody as my boss as I'd be my own boss.
Stability
Being home everyday would provide stability and knowing that I have a job in the morning and it's under my control is very desirable.
-
Family involved
My sister, my husband, my mom, anybody could be able to come over and take over if I have an emergency or need more help.
-
Worth it?
Stay with dogs
I'd be able to spend my days working with dogs which is a dream of mine. No matter what, this would make it worth it. Even with all the fears of lawsuits and risks, I'd do everything in my power to prevent that.
Little financial risk
I wouldn't be putting much money into the business at first, so there is little to lose. This makes it a much more desirable objective.
Already set up
There would be nearly no prep work for this idea as because I already have two dogs, I have food, bowls, leashes, collars, water, and the yard space to accommodate.
-
Risks
Money
After awhile, I'd want to expand my fencing to separate small and large breed of dogs. This would require a bit of money from profits of my business.
Because I would have to wait to do this, it may hurt me building my business in the beginning as I would have limits on how many dogs I could take care of at one time and the sizes of each one.
Lawsuits
A worry of mine is if there is an incident of a dog attacking another on my watch. That would be my responsibility and possibly, at my cost.
A solution to this risk would be to have every customer sign a waiver stating that I hold no accountability or responsibility in the event of a dog attack, and hold no responsibility to pay for vet bills, etc. This may make customers wary and refuse to sign, resulting in less customers but it is the safest route.
