elbow joint complex - Coggle Diagram
elbow joint complex
-
-
joint capsule
contains
- HU joint
- HR joint
- proximal RU joint
relations
anteriorly
- just above the coronoid & radial fossa
- capsule att to ulna along the margins of
coronoid process
& blends with the proximal border of
annular lig
posteriorly
- attached to humerus along the edge of olecranon process & back of medial epicondyle
- att to posterior & interior margins of the neck of radius

-
muscles of the EJ
anterior compartment
- flexor carpi radialis
- flexor carpi ulnaris
- flexor digitorum superficialis
- palmaris longus
- biceps brachii
- brachialis
- brachioradialis
- supinator teres
- pronator teres
- most arise frm the common flexor origin ie--- anfd they connect the humerus to the elbow and elbow to the wrist
posterior compartment
- 7 muscles
cross the post comp
- triceps brachii
- anconeus
- extensor digitorum
- extensor digiti minimi
- extensor carpi ulnaris
- extensor carpi radialis longus
- extensor carpi radialis brevis
- most arise frm the common extensor origin ie ,lateral epicondyle of humerus, & they connect the humerus to the elbow and elbow to wrist
introduction
- the joints n muscles of the elbow complex are designed to serve the hand
- they provide mobility for the hand in space by shortening & lengthening the upper extremity
- this allows the hand to be brought close to the face for eating & grooming
- rotation of the elbow provides additional mobility for the hand
- many of the 16 muscles that cross the elbow complex also act at either the wrist or shoulder
- & therefore the wrist and shoulder are linked with the elbow in enahancing the function of the hand (cordinated movement)

structure
HU & HR articulations
on humerus

there are 3 indentations in the humerus
- coronoid fossa
- radial fossa
- olecranon fossa
