The boy and Aunt Mary seemed to be close in his childhood; she used to read out to him and he used to ask her questions she would answer. But as he seems to have betrayed her, they’ve drifted apart and he doesn’t really know how to behave around her anymore. Even when she’s dying, he only came to be with her towards the end. He doesn’t know what their relationship is anymore and is floundering in the middle.
