Quetiapine Atypical antipsychotic which block dopamine and serotonin receptors they limit stimuli entering the brain by depressing the RAS. Used for schizophrenia, hyperactivity, combative behavior and sever behavior problems in children. Normal dose range is 25mg to 400mg per day the route is oral. Adverse effects include sedation, weakness, tremor, drowsiness, dystonia, parkinsonism and tardive dyskinesia. Constipation, flushing, dry mouth and nasal stuffiness. hypotension, respiratory effects. Interactions beta blockers and alcohol. Contraindications Parkinson's, hypotension, dementia, pregnancy's and those who have had contrast for myelography. Caution in those with peptic ulcers, glaucoma, urinary or intestinal obstruction.
