Differentiation Strategies: When working with gifted learners, it is important to consider their needs. They require alternate learning situations that challenge their strengths and interests.
Differentiation Strategies: These students are working on curriculum that is at-level, but they can benefit from learning situations that cognitively challenge them.
Differentiation Strategies: For these students, it is important to provide remediation to increase their knowledge. Since all students learn differently, it is recommended to use various teaching methods.
1) Self-directed activities
2) Opportunities to research interests
3) Use advanced materials
4) Assign creative assignments that require sustained concentration
5) Ask higher level questions
6) Opportunities to deepen knowledge in a subject area
7) Solve real world problems
8) Assign student roles
9) Independent learning opportunities
10) Assign group roles
11) Digital/educational apps
Gifted learners have different needs than their peers, and they benefit from the following:
Homogeneously grouping students improves learning outcomes because it can positively challenge students. They benefit from the following differentiation strategies:
1) Create learning stations
2) Use think-pair-share
3) Allow students to reflect on their learning
4) Group problem solving projects
5) Teach Up
6) Choice assignments
7) Opportunity to work collaboratively in smaller groups; allow for independent work
8) Group assignment checklists for monitoring
9) Inquiry based instruction
10) Educational apps: Quizlet, Kahoot, Quizziz, Socrativ
This group of students would benefit from the following strategies:
1) One to one conferencing
2) Frontload material
3) Pre-teach vocabulary
4) Think-pair-share
5) Provide response stems
6) Scaffold/chunk content
7) Use learning stations
8) Offer choice assignment menu
9) Use audiobooks
10) Provide at level curriculum
11) Use educational apps: Quizlet, Kahoot, Plickers, Quizziz, IXL
Assessments: There are two types of assessments: formative and summative. Formative is meant to guide instruction. Summative assessments show mastery or knowledge about a topic and typically they are end of unit tests.

As a high school Health Science teacher, I would begin by giving the students a survey to assess their knowledge about the content. The questions would include multiple choice questions. Results from the survey will be used to create homogenous groups of students. While the students are watching a video about the topic, I will group the students based on the survey results. The groups will work together on different assignments based on their knowledge of the curriculum.
Special Needs and EML's:
1) Flexible pacing
2) Reteach concepts
3) Word banks with definitions
4) Modified and reduced work
In addition to the strategies mentioned, the students with special needs and EMLs would benefit from these additional supports.
