One of Dewey's theory's was that children learn best when the interact with people
Another theory was that teachers should take interest and backgrounds of the children
Dewey also thought teachers need to have confidence when there planning their lessons
Dewey also believed teachers need to be sensitive to the values of the family's
Chipman and Dewey wanted to find the best way to educate children in America
Dewey got a job at the University of Chicago, he taught philosophy.
He left Chicago and went to work at Columbia University for four more decades
Dewey established the Dewey's Laboratory School at the University of Chicago
Dewey wrote

Dewey thought when kids engage in activities they shouldn't just be fun but educational
John Dewey was born in
Burlington Vermont
in 1859
His family had farmed in Vermont for 3 generations
Dewey passed away in 1952
Attended University of Vermont
Got a PhD at John Hopkins University in 1884
This Got him a teaching position at University of Michigan
Married Alice Chipman who was one of his students
Alice was one of the biggest reasons why Dewey became so interested in studying education
Dewey thought teachers should observe children
Dewey believed its educators job to plan and organize activities
He also believed teachers should have knowledge about children
Children need to be able to be independent and work through situations
teachers need to understand the nature of learning
Teachers need to be willing to grow beyond there general knowledge
Progressive education was movement towards more child centered education
Progressive education was liked but disliked at the same time
Parents were worried about the change because they grew up during the agricultural era
Dewey didn't like either/or conversations
Dewey also thought some experience in school aren't educational
He criticized traditional formal teachings
Dewey also wasn't fond of teachers turing children turning children loose without offering guidence
