Characteristics of sawdust created - Coggle Diagram
Characteristics of sawdust created
Treatment with sodium hydroxide
1g of sawdust was treated with 3 ml of 5M of sodium hydroxide
The sawdust was treated with acetone and left overnight to dry
Treatment with sodium carbonate
1g of sawdust was treated with 3 ml of 5M of sodium carbonate
The sawdust was treated with acetone and left overnight to dry
Chemical
Able to treat pollutants such as heavy metal ions and organic dyes
Increases effectiveness of cellulose and lignin within sawdust to help water purification
Physical
Possesses adsorbent behavior
Is buoyant in seawater
Supports several cleanup strategies
Preparation
Chemically modified sawdust
1g of sawdust was treated with both 3 ml of sodium hydroxide and sodium carbonate
The sawdust was then heated at 60 degrees for 2 hours
Finally, the sawdust were left overnight to dry in an oven
Organic dyes and heavy metal ions
A one litre stock solution was made by reacting 5M of each of the pollutant with 1 litre of deionised water
Then the one litre stock solution will be divided equally when added to each type of chemically modified sawdust
