Mind-Map Summary of Christian Education Classes from The Incarnation of Christ until the 2nd Coming of Christ
The Incarnation of Christ
What does "Incarnation" mean?
Incarnation comes from the Latin "incarnatus" which consists of two words: "in" (in) and "caro" or "carnis" (meat). So incarnation literally means "entering into the flesh"
Christ' incarnation is a form of God's sovereignty. Jesus who is sovereign God limits Himself, becomes a limited human being.
What was the focus of this chapter?
This chapter focuses on how Christ was in fact born as a human but was also conceived only by the holy spirit as the prophecies have said
God sent his son to dwellt he earth to save humanity from sin because of his great love for us
Christmas
This chapter also discusses briefly about Christmas, the holiday we all love and why some churches forbid its followers to even celebrate Christmas
It discusses about why Christmas is celebrated on the 25th of December which is formerly known as the birth of the sun god in Roman religion. It's because Christ is referred to as the true God so people replaced the birth of the sun god with Christ' birth.
The Death of Christ
What the main focus of this chapter?
This chapter focuses on everything involved with Jesus' death on the cross due to his immesureable love for us, like the meaning of the cross, how he was tortured beforehand and the 7 sentences he said on the cross before his eventual death.
- The meaning of the cross:
To Jews at the time, the cross meant that the executed was cursed by God himself, the cross also meant the upmost humiliation a human can endure. Not only that, anyone executed at the cross is also seen as a shame to their country.Lastly, the cross is also known as the pinnacle of suffering because crucifixion was meant to put anyone executed with that method to experience immense and unbearable pain.
- How Jesus was tortured
It's been documented that the before Jesus died on the cross
using a flagrum (Roman whip) designed for torture. Each whip consisted of 12-16 accessories made of iron / animal bones.
- The 7 sentences Jesus said before his death on the cross
1 "Father, forgive them, for they don't know what they are doing". The first words are words of forgiveness, in which Jesus prays for those who have wronged Him. Here we see the unconditional and divine nature of His love.
2." And he said to him, 'Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise'." This saying is traditionally called "The Word of Salvation". Grace is poured out through faith when Jesus convinces one of the criminals of eternal forgiveness and salvation.
- "Woman, behold, thy son! Behold, thy mother! ” The third word is an expression of love. The meaning of Jesus' words to John is that each of us who have realized God's love, also bear a burden of responsibility from God.
- " Eli, Eli lama sabakhtani" (My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? ")
These fourth words are utterances of spiritual suffering, namely the spiritual suffering that Jesus felt when God left Him. The holy God turned from His only begotten Son when all the sins of mankind were placed on Him. - “I Thirst”
This fifth word is an expression of physical suffering. These words show the humanity of Jesus Christ who really did suffer. - It is finished
The sixth word is the word of victory. The emphasis of these words is not on the ending of suffering, but on the completion of the mission of redemption. These words declare total victory in which Jesus has completely obeyed the Father to solve the problem of human sin. - Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit.
This seventh or last word is an expression of submission. Jesus died because of His own will. No one took His life. Jesus' life was not taken away or swallowed up by death, but He Himself laid down His life for the ransom of many people.
The Meaning of Jesus' Death for Christians
The main focus of this chapter
This chapter talks about the meaning of God's death to Christians, which are:
Jesus' death replaced the punishment we should have endured. Jesus died to redeem us from sin.
Jesus' death illustrates just how great God's wrath caused by human sin.
Kematian Yesus telah melepaskan kita dari perbudakan dosa, sehingga kita bebas melakukan kebenaran.
Jesus' death has reconciled us to God
Jesus' Rise from the Dead
The main focus of this chapter
This chapter talks about the rising of Jesus Christ, the proof of His rising and what it means to Christians.
The proof:
1. Jesus' tomb was empty. He was no longer there!
2. Jesus' shroud was still intact
3. The appearance of Jesus to the disciples and others for 40 days
4. The change of attitude in Jesus' disciples
The meaning
1. The resurrection of Jesus proves that the enemy (devil and death) has been defeated (Romans 6: 9; 1 Cor. 15: 54-57).
2. The resurrection of Jesus is a victory for believers (John 11:25; Phil. 1:21). Believers need not fear Satan or death. Everyone will die physically, but death is the gateway to heaven.
3. The Resurrection of Jesus Declares That Our Debt of sin has Been Paid Off (1 Cor. 6:20; 7:23). When man fell into sin, they were indebted to God. Therefore the resurrection of Jesus from the dead is a guarantee that all our sin debt has been paid in full, God's heart has been satisfied.
4. The resurrection of Jesus is the foundation and center of Christian faith (1 Cor. 15:17). If Jesus did not rise, our faith in Him is meaningless. If Jesus did not rise then we trust in a dead God, who couldn't do anything to save us from sin. If Jesus never rose, then we will continue to live under the power of sin.
5. Jesus' resurrection is the pattern that His believers will follow (Romans. 6: 4-5,8; Col. 2:12; 1 Thessalonians. 4:14). Those who believe in the Lord Jesus, those who have died in Christ, will one day experience a bodily resurrection.
Jesus' ascension to heaven
The main focus of this chapter
This chapter tells us the reasons why Jesus ascended to heaven instead of staying.
The Redemption Mission is complete. From the start, God has planned the redemption of sinful humans thatwould be performed by Jesus. (Gen 1:15) Jesus came into the world, was born, died on the cross and rose from the dead to perform the mission of redemption. The ascension of Jesus to heaven is proof that the redemptive mission has been completed, Jesus must return to the Father to be responsible for that mission.
Providing a place for believers (John 14)
Jesus went to heaven to provide a place for every believer to live (v.1), Jesus also wants to live with his redeemed people, who are believers, "so that where I am, you will be there too" (v. 3), The ascension of Jesus reminds us that our real home is not in this world, but in glorious heaven.
We who believe in Him will also ascend to heaven (John 14: 2-3, Eph. 2: 6)
Everyone who believes in Jesus, will ascend to heaven to live there forever. Just as His resurrection, so also His ascension to heaven is a pattern that all who believe in Him will follow.
So that the Holy Spirit to Come Down (John 14:16, 18-19)
Jesus has promised the Helping Spirit, that is, the Holy Spirit will come into the world to accompany and lead the lives of believers. If He did not ascend to heaven then the Holy Spirit would've never came down, that means everything Jesus said about the Holy Spirit was a lie.
Before Jesus ascended
Jesus ascended to heaven after 40 days of his resurrection from the dead. During those 40 days Jesus appeared to the disciples to confirm their faith.
During those 40 days Jesus prepared the hearts of the disciples before the time to parting came. He chose Peter to be the leader for the other disciples.
The event of Jesus' ascension to heaven took place outside the city of Jerusalem, near the area of Bethany.
What Jesus does in heaven
Ruling as King with believers (Rev. 20: 4; 2 Tim. 2:12)
As Priest / Mediator (Hebrews 4:14, 7: 24-25, 8: 1-6; 1 John 2: 1)
As a prophet through the Holy Spirit and His servants (Jn 14:26, 16: 7-15
What "sitting at the right side of God means
Jesus occupies a place of honor / glory in heaven.
Jesus occupied or got a place of honor / glory in heaven.
Jesus shares rule over the church and the universe.
Parousia, Christs second coming
The main focuses of this topic
Why Jesus will come back to earth
1. Fulfil the task of saving His people (1 Cor. 15: 42-57; Phil. 3: 19-20; Rev. 12: 7-11)
The second coming of Jesus conquers the final enemy, namely death and sin.
A man returns to eternal fellowship with God forever.
2. Satan, the enemy of believers, ends his role forever. The human body has triumphed over death and death has no more power over the body. Believers get a new body, which is a resurrection body like the body of Jesus Christ which was taken up to heaven.
3. Picking up His people (1 Cor. 15: 42-57; Phil. 3: 19-20; 1 Cor. 15: 50-54, 1 Thess. 4: 13-18, John 11:25). Jesus ascended to heaven to prepare a place for His people, those who believe in Him. Jesus came to pick up His people who were still alive when He came, as well as His people who had died when He came.
His people who have died will be resurrected and given a resurrection / glorified body so that they are worthy to live with Jesus in heaven. **
Why Jesus will come back to earth (2)
1. To judge all people (Matt. 16:27; Acts 10:42; 1 Cor. 4: 5; Rom. 2: 3-16, Yds. 1:15, 1 Pet. 4: 5; Hebrews 4: 13) Jesus came a second time to be Judge of the world.
2. Raising the Dead (1 Thess. 4: 13-18; 1 Cor. 15: 51-52) At the second coming of Jesus, the dead, who previously believed in the Lord Jesus throughout the ages, will be resurrected first. Then He will give a resurrected / glorified body to every living believer at His second coming. With this resurrected / glorified body, believers will meet the Lord Jesus in the clouds, and together He will ascend to heaven. Every believer must get a new body (glorified body) because the old body (flesh and blood) cannot enter heaven
**
- Reign as King with the Believers (Rev. 20: 4; 2 Tim. 2:12) The second coming of Jesus will also establish His Kingdom on earth. Jesus will rule as King and believers will reign with Him.**
